Terminals 4–8 are connected by walkways, so you can travel from one to the other without exiting security. If you leave or enter terminals 1, 2, or 3, you will have to exit the secure area and then go through security again when you arrive at the next terminal.

The letter X in LAX actually has no special meaning. When the airport first opened in 1928, it was simply known as LA. As more airports opened, a three-letter system was adopted, and the Los Angeles airport was given the letter X to complete its new name in 1947.
